Dance, dance, and more dances, plus a vivid kaleidoscope of colours, food and fun await thousands of guests visiting Calabar this year as the city hosts the 19th edition of its renowned carnival. Famed as Africa’s biggest street party, the Calabar festival has over the years become a rallying point for fun lovers in Nigeria and beyond as it provides opportunities for people from different walks of life to end the year in a convivial and entertaining manner.

Originally held as a month-long event, the Calabar Carnival has been scaled down in terms of duration, but the fun and enthusiasm are as high as ever. Organizers say delegates from 35 countries and 20 Nigerian states will be participating in this year’s Calabar Carnival, and that everything has been put in place to ensure the security of lives and property of everyone during the event. So guys, what are you waiting for?

The theme of this year’s carnival as “Humanity”, and it is meant to reflect on, and address the problem of man’s inhumanity to his fellow men in the society.

Activities lined up to add colours to this year’s Carnival include a massive display of different “Nigerian” culture through a street procession to be held on December 26. There are 10 performance centres to engage and entertain fun-loving people during the event and there will be competition among the domestic and international contingents for recognition as the delegate with the most colourful display. Guests should expect more Nigerian music, and an atmosphere charged with youthful vibes.
