Remember in school when we wrote on topics like “THE WORLD IN 2020 or in 2050”. Everyone had their ideas of how the world would be, what changes might happen, etc. But no one in their wildest guess would have predicted this predicament. Due to the current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are trapped in their homes for an extended time.

Social distancing has made people feel isolated and lonely and increased their stress and anxiety, making it essential to indulge in activities that help eliminate stress. We all desire, from the core of our hearts, a quality vacation. The lingering concern about travelling far from home is building up new excursion styles and reviving the old ones that allow travellers to maintain social distance.

Keeping in mind the new pandemic-induced normal, we’ve rounded up all the creative vacation ideas for a socially distant summer vacation because sometimes all you need is a different view.

Virtual Vacations

We’re all feeling the sting of having to delay our eagerly awaited summer vacations. With a little imagination, we can take a virtual vacation while lounging around in our pyjamas. It’s a digital escape where you can sail to far-off destinations without digging a hole in your pocket.

You can travel to your dream destination and get a glimpse of sights like cherry blossoms, colourful autumns, snow-covered winters, from virtually climbing mountains to touring museums, all from the safety of your house.

Create a travel itinerary, research about famous dishes and traditional music of the region, learn about activities and sports native to the location.

Luxury Staycations

Staycations are the best alternative to do away with our lockdown blues. Many resorts and hotels are offering attractive discounts because of the pandemic. Book a stay in luxury hotels, enjoy your stay in beautiful rooms with exceptional service. Make most of all the amenities the hotels offer due to the pandemic, sit back, and try to see the positive in not having too much to do.

It’s an excellent opportunity to indulge in self-care, enjoy a long and relaxing bath, destress yourself, order exotic food to your room, have dry red wine on the balcony, book spa massages and pamper yourself.

Day Trips

A cost-effective alternative to vacation is a daycation. It’s a great way to get away while maintaining social distance. Figure out how far you’re willing to travel, prep your vehicle – use your own or rent a vehicle of your choice,  scour Google for activities, museums, secluded beaches, waterfalls, national parks, etc.

Anticipate your meals – either carry your food or research about food joints nearby and return that night to your home while cutting the cost of hotel stay and reducing the risk of social contact.

Remote Ranches

If you’re looking to escape the city and spend time in the wild, open and remote, Ranch vacations are a perfect match. Wide-open spaces and mountainous areas are considerably less crowded and thus reduces the risk of social contact.

Ranches offer various activities, including mountain biking, rock climbing, sailing, horse riding, etc. Some ranches provide all-inclusive weeks while others charge extra depending upon the activities you’re interested in.

You may indulge in horseback riding, bird watching, or simply settle in the veranda, reading a good book while enjoying nature’s view.

Ghost town explorations

The best way to travel without worrying about social distancing is to visit a Ghost town, as these abandoned places do not have many visitors. Exploring these creepy and awe-inspiring places that humans have left behind makes for a quirky experience.

Whether you find a ghost or not, you’ll witness the remnants from the past. Be it the silent streets, haunted hotels, mining centres, nuclear explosion sites, or towns entirely submerged by water, these deserted places offer a haunting view into the lives of once flourishing communities.

Some locations also offer a stay, what can be more exhilarating than staying in an abandoned building? Some people find them a bit spooky, but others find them fascinating.

Fishing trips

Going fishing is a great way to spend quality time to get rid of the COVID-19 stress and rejoice with nature. Take a private boat and use your own equipment to limit the potential transmission of COVID-19 and go fishing. Depending on the variety of fish that you want, you can choose the location.

So, toss out that tube of sunscreen, grab your license and sunglasses, head to the lake or river, and secure a spot for fishing. Spend some of your time on the pier relaxing, enjoy reeling various fishes in the day, and relax to the sound of lapping water in the night. Cook meals with the fresh catch and rest before the next day’s adventure.

Extreme sports

After months of working from home, we’re all looking for a change. Now, more than ever, a change of scenery is like a therapy. Trying something different like Extreme sports could provide the catalyst that you’re after. Whether it is scuba diving, water skiing, parasailing, mountainboarding, skateboarding, surfing, or white water rafting, extreme sports carry a WOW factor.

Extreme sports push you to your physical and mental limits and boost your self-confidence, which is imperative. So, go ahead and book your getaway from the crowded city streets and access the ultimate adrenaline rush activities.

As Anne Lamott says, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.” So, if you’re one of those who is tired of the routine and needs a break from all the mind-numbing things happening around, we suggest you consider one of these vacation ideas.
