In a bid to becoming the second regional hub for southern Africa, the Zambia government has embarked on a $1billion new airport terminal project with the Chinese government. This was highlighted during the hosted media tour of the new Kenneth Kaunda International Airport terminal at the sidelines of the Zambia tourism expo(ZATEX) taking place in Lusaka today.
The communications and brand Manager Zambia Airports Corporation limited Mweembe Sikaulu who took the group on the tour said that the final structure is expected to be completed by October 2019.
She revealed that the intention was to make the new KKIA terminal a regional hub in southern Africa stressing that Zambia was building an Airport city which will include shopping malls hotels and other attractions.
The head of the Chinese construction company who also lead the inspection said the new ultra-modern Airport is being built in an expandable design for future expansion.
The 4 million passenger annually airport project employs over 600 Zambia locals.
