The Lagos Fashion Fair 2015 has kicked off in style at the prestigious Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. The 3-day event, organized by the Meridyen International Fair Organization in partnership with the Ministry of Economy, Republic of Turkey and supported by the Nigerian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), is tagged as “the best business platform for the ready-to-wear sector” in Nigeria.
Declaring the 3-day event open yesterday, the Vice-President of NACCIMA, Iyalode Lawson Iyabo expressed her satisfaction and happiness at the growth of trade and economic partnership between Nigeria and Turkey, of which one of the fruits is the on-going ready-to-wear fashion fair.
Responding to questions from the press, Iyalode Lawson acknowledged the challenges faced by international businessmen at the ports where goods are often delayed for months before clearance. She promised to consult the appropriate authorities on the issue with the assurance of future improvement at the ports. She also used the forum to reiterate government’s commitment to providing enabling environment for foreign businesses to thrive in Nigeria.
The opening workshop for the exhibition was facilitated by Mrs Funmi Ajilala Ladipo, National President of Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria & CEO, Regalia; Fadan of Modella Clothings and Miss Ogechi, CEO, Face of Ajegunle Beauty Pageant. The facilitators emphasized that the aim of the festival was to bring international fashion exhibitors/players to find a meeting point with players in the Nigeria fashion industry. The need for people to understand the business of fashion was also highlighted. Nigerians were challenged to up their game and start building global brands out of their products and services.
The 3-day exhibition will feature local and international ready-to-wear clothes and accessories, workshops, seminars, fashion shows and business networking opportunities, among others.
