I am already counting down to Easter, are you? If you’ll be in Lagos like me, Easter is going to be fun with plenty of parties, food and drink. The religious part of me will remember the death of Christ with all the solemnities it deserves, but Easter is not the sorrowful season for mourning, but an ecstatic time to celebrity the resurrection of Christ, and how better to celebrity this than to do so in grand style.

Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital will come alive this Easter with GIDI FEST, AYLive and other fun activities and events. You definitely want to be a part of at least one of these shows.

The Gidi Culture Festival, also known as Gidifest is now a household name in the city. It holds annually during the Easter holiday and features a lot of funfairs. Lagosians love to call it the biggest beach party around, and the title may well worth the brand as the show usually hold on one of the popular beachfront in the city.

This year’s edition won’t be any different as organizers have promised to turn the Landmark Beachfront, Victoria Island, Lagos, into a party playground with food, art, games and music on 20th April 2019. Artists billed to perform at this year’s Gidifest include Patoranking, Sir Shina Peters, Niniola, Wande Coal among others.

The Gidi Culture Festival is a celebration of the progression of urban youth culture which is expressed through music, food, art and games. Organizers say Gidi Fest is the safe and dynamic environment for the Gidi Tribe – a movement, a community, an identity; a creative expression which embodies the progression of urban youth culture in Africa.

The Gidi Tribe, they say, represents the new African generation that refuses to be defeated or defined by their circumstances. It’s an emergence of young determined individuals coming together to push the boundaries and rewrite the status quo.

Also happening this Easter is the AY Live show, a rib-cracking comedy show that helps Lagosians ease off the Lagos stress. The host, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, will be performing at this event along with other renowned African comedians and artists. This event holds in the evening of Easter Sunday, also in Victoria Island.

Another interesting event is the Food and Games Fete holding on Easter Sunday (April 21) from noon till 10 pm at Muri Okunola Park, Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Lagos. This event brings families and friends together to enjoy various cuisines and different games.

This Easter, don’t just wait at home expecting the Easter bunny, step out wherever you might be and catch some fun.
