When you are trying to decide on a romantic destination to spend some quality time with your loved one – whether it’s during Christmas or any other holiday, finding the ideal place can be daunting. I have tried to make that task easier for you as I combed everywhere to put together a list with something for everyone – no matter what you are looking for. Below is my list of 10 most romantic places on earth that you can visit.

Paris, France

Paris is known as the most romantic place on earth to many people. There you can spend time gazing at the views from the Eiffel Tower, cruising the Seine River or taking a show at Moulin Rouge. There are so many opulent hotels where you can drink champagne by candlelight, under majestic chandeliers and eat some of the finest food Paris has to offer.

Shopping in Paris is legendary and it is worth taking the time to look at all the boutiques, flea markets, second-hand shops, and food markets. You may find that you need to buy some extra luggage to take all your treasures back home with you.

These are just some of the reasons to visit Paris for a romantic rendezvous.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon has so much to offer couples wanting a romantic escape. Take a sunset cruise along the Tagus River by yacht and take in the stunning views. Stroll the narrow, cobbled streets and then take a break at a local cafe where you can drink amazing coffee and try local treats. In the evening, listen to Fado music and sip wine or visit one of the local bars that are around before heading off to one of the many romantic hotels in the area.

This metropolis has everything that you need. From amazing history and architecture to the well-known tram 28 which has been winding it’s way up cobbled, steep roads for decades. Take this journey for people watching and soaking up the sites of some spectacular castles and places that you will pass on your journey.

Fiji Island

Fiji offers so many opportunities to spend some quality time with your loved one. There are luxurious hotels, islands galore and a laid-back vibe that is perfect for romance. Take time out to do some snorkelling in the crystal clear waters, take a walk through the local markets and villages where you will be greeted by some of the friendliest people on earth and in the evening feast on incredible food and watch a Meke.

Visiting the local villages on a glass bottom boat, you will be met by giggling children and a lot of culture. Buying handmade crafts and jewellery helps the locals and many of their handicrafts are hand carved before your eyes.

The food is a mix of Fijian, Indian and European and you will find some of the freshest, tastiest seafood anywhere. Enjoy a Lovo (food cooked underground for hours) and mingle with the locals.

Fiji has a lot to offer, the hardest part of the trip will be deciding how much or how little you want to do.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna is a place that oozes romance. The Vienna State Opera is a must see. World famous concerts and ballet shows are performed in one of the most magnificent auditoriums to be found anywhere.

Going to a ball, just like in a Disney movie and waltzing the night away is an unforgettable experience. Take a look around and there are event dates and times to be found. Taking a cruise down the Danube is one of the highlights of visiting this fairytale city.

When eating in Vienna, make sure you are hungry. The food is hearty and filling as well as extremely tasty. Try one of the local restaurants and you will not be disappointed.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Vienna without visiting a coffee house. Think of plush couches, crystal chandeliers and attentive waiters serving delicious coffee and cakes. Coffee houses there are built around tradition and they are a good place to spend a few romantic hours together.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka, with its stunning mountains, lush greenery, teas gardens and waterfalls gives couples plenty of options for an intimate romantic break. You will find soft sands and glistening sea, the beaches are the perfect place for a romantic evening stroll or a picnic while you watch some of the most stunning sunsets you will see anywhere.

Eating in Sri Lanka, you will find a melting pot of cuisines leaving you spoiled for choice. A mix of Indian, Arabic, Portuguese and Dutch cuisine to name a few; your senses will be assaulted with tastes, smells and colours.

The food, people and country are an absolute delight and a must-see for anybody.

Budapest, Hungary

Fishermans Bastion, Budapest

Budapest has no shortage of things to do for a romantic escape. Walking around Budapest, you will be enchanted by the castles that look like they are right out of the pages of a fairy tale, sunset views, incredible restaurants and architecture. Eating there gives you the opportunity to dine in luxury at one of its five Michelin star restaurants or go to a local restaurant and try traditional Hungarian food which is delicious for its heartiness and deep flavours.

For a taste of history, head to one of the thermal baths that date back to the Ottoman rule. Rest and relax in wellness baths that are around and if you are lucky enough to visit in winter, the Rudas Bath has a rooftop pool to soak in while you watch snowflakes falling around you.

New Zealand

New Zealand is a country where you will find destinations for romance everywhere you look. In the north; you will find islands and beaches where often you will be the only souls there. Auckland with its array of multicultural food, shops, markets and entertainment will keep you enchanted as long as you choose to stay there. In Rotorua and Taupo you will find bubbling geysers and thermal baths to relax and rejuvenate.

The South Island has breathtaking scenery that is hard to find anywhere else in the world. Bays, small towns, hiking, skiing or just relaxing, there is plenty to do. Cruise the Marlborough Sounds at sunset, see the sunrise before anywhere else in the world and walk on glaciers. Almost everywhere you go, there will be an opportunity for you and your loved one to spend quality time alone.

Iran is not a place often considered when looking for a romantic destination, but Persia has so much to offer loved-up couples. Just beware of local customs that don’t approve of PDAs.

The mouthwatering food is enough reason to go and keeps surprising you with the earthy flavours and colourful dishes, perfect for a romantic evening meal. The shopping is sensational and you will find yourself in another world strolling the bazaars and markets that sell goods such as stunning copper jewellery, tapestries, ceramics as well as incredibly intricate handmade carpets.

Tahiti has the perfect landscape for lovebirds. Crystalline waters, white sandy beaches, over-water bungalows and long, lazy days swimming and lying in the sun while overlooking the endless views of the ocean, make Tahiti a destination of dreams.

Have a couples spa package at one of the hotels or resorts and you will wonder why you haven’t done it sooner. It is a perfect way to relax and unwind. While you are having your treatment, take some time to decide which of the magnificent cuisines Tahiti has to offer, you will be dining on. French influenced, fresh food and wine by candlelight is the perfect end to a relaxing day.

Norway is a destination like no other. Snuggle up on those cold nights in a snow hotel which is a unique experience. A sauna is almost a ritual in Norway and is a must do for a couple. Book your own private sauna and enjoy this uniquely Nordic experience.

Spend the evening stargazing from a cabin. You will see a sky that is so bright and clear that the snow is lit up. You may even see the Northern Lights which has to be one of the most wondrous sights in the world.

Try some of the local Nordic cuisines at one of the sleepy towns that have colourful houses which could be mistaken for gingerbread houses. The local dishes use ingredients sourced from the water, wilderness and mountains and are extremely healthy. The local liquor is made from potatoes and is aged in wooden barrels.

Norway has so much to offer as a romantic destination that it should not be missed.

Anywhere can be romantic if you are with the one you love, but the above places are spectacular in their offerings and you can be assured that by visiting, you will be left with everlasting memories and a desire to return or try out some of the other places on the list.
