The cheapest ride about town is the daladala (minibuses). The fixed price is about TSh400 (US$0.25), and they ply all the main routes.  However, daladalas are often at high capacity and – yes – safety is a serious consideration. Make sure to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Not everyone is so friendly and some like to take advantage of naive travellers. Guard your personal items at all times.

Taxis are inexpensive and a ride within the city costs less than US$5 (TSh5000), while a trip to the outskirts will cost TSh8000 a little above US$5 – at any time of the day. But be sure to agree on the price before hopping aboard though.

Car hire is also available, and most rentals prefer to provide their own drivers.
