Port Harcourt

Port Harcourt overview

Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers state, is one of Nigeria’s foremost urban centres. Also known as the Garden city, P/H (an informal way of referring to Port /Harcourt) was recently declared a World Book Capital by the United Nations Organisations for Education, Science and Culture. This has put the city on the global map for the attention it has paid towards education in recent years.

Port Harcourt is a beautiful place to relax, shop and have some fun, so visitors coming in to the city have a lot to see and do all year round. The city has a buzzing nightlife with many restaurants, bars and nightclubs always on standby to light up the night till daybreak. Port Harcourt has a good road network; but traffic gridlock occurs often at rush hours early in the morning and late in the afternoon. So visitors need to plan their trips well so as not to get caught up in the logjam. The city parades a sumptuous range of local dishes that are a delight to eat; and the local drinks taste really good. The local languages of the residents are Ikwerre and Kalabari. Everyone in the city understands basic English, so visitors have no cause to be worried about communication. The city has parks for relaxation, a zoo, shopping malls, cinemas and large markets, among others. As long as you are in Port Harcourt, there is no dull moment.
