The Pan-African Film and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (FESPACO) is the oldest and the largest film festival held in Africa. Begun in 1969 by a couple of local movie enthusiasts, it was institutionalized by a government decree in 1972. From 1985 onwards, different themes were chosen for the festival which is held biennially. The event is usually staged in March, after the last Saturday of February with the opening night at the Stade du 4-Août (national stadium) in Ouagadougou
